Kinja'd!!!

I've always loved these cars, but after watching the Tina Fey episode of Comedians in Cars, my wife started pestering me about trying to sell my Alfa and getting one. First of all, bizarre. My wife has always seemed to resent my project car as it violates her beliefs in fiscal austerity. But on the other hand, she loves old cars and at one time said she'd be OK with maybe swapping the Alfa for a Karmann Ghia. I just didn't want another VW with its wheezy, gutless air cooled motor, and the possibility of swapping in a Porsche unit on my budget seemed unlikely. But now SHE is on Autotrader Classics looking for a P1800. Maybe it's the Tina Fey idolatry factor? Should I encourage this?

YES!

Just make it her project car, and keep the Alfa.

My wife started watching F1 with me last year, and she's taking me to the GP in Austin this year (one of my Christmas presents).

I'm such a Volvo fan; my response may contain some bias

DO IT! DO IT NOW! NEVER LOOK BACK!

take good care of it, and it has the potential to take good care of you.

From experience: Having a clean, running older car for the wife = less bitching about my 'almost there' projects.

Well, until we move into a new house with either a detached garage for a second old car, I can only have one. Right now it's the GTV6, but I also want something more modern, possibly trackable. Like a Miata or even an S2000. So now we're up to three cars! This is a dangerous road...

GTV? Yes. GTV6? I don't think so.

The GTV6 is a version of the GTV.

I'm talking about the difference between this:

Yeah, and I'm arguing my preference for the former over the P1800.
Also, you've posted a GTV6 above, not a GTV. Know your Alfas.

I thnk you misunderstand me. I posted 2 pics, a GTV and a GTV6. I am saying that I'd take a GTV over a P1800 but I would definitely take a P1800 over a GTV6.

No I didn't. You posted an Alfetta GTV6 (above) and a Bertone coupé GTV (below). But CK doesn't own a GTV6, he owns a GTV, which is just like the car you posted above minus the bonnet bulge and wheelarches. That's why I said GTV instead of GTV6.

Yup I can read. I just felt like showing a situation where I'd take a Volvo over an Alfa. It's not very often, you know. I'd take a V70R over a GTV6 too actually.
